*Polymer Clay Mixed-media Mandalas
June 15 (10-5) and June 16 (10-4)
A mandala is a round, oftentimes symmetrical, piece of art that typically expresses personality, core beliefs, and/or hopes and intentions.
Using color, shape, and pattern to express a variety of intentions, we will spend the day manipulating chunks of polymer clay into beautiful, pattern-rich, handmade tiles in shapes that will be used in a mandala.
In this project-oriented class, students will create a bunch of patterned tiles in answer to prompts intended to inspire your interior world (What are your strengths? What element do you most relate to? What heals you? What are you grateful for?)
Starting with the focal point, and moving out toward the border, you will make tiles that express who you are, who and what you love, and what your hopes are for yourself and the world. It will be a fun, active, inspiring, color/pattern immersion kind of day!
We will apply each batch of tiles to our mandalas, and by the end of Day #2, you will have a completed mandala that is saturated with your handwork, the fun we've had, and the content and thought you've put in to each tile. You will also have used a variety of pre-made tesserae such as beads, ball-chain, glass, etc.
Truly, a deep and personal statement of who you are, made in a fun, lively, convivial learning environment.
By the end of the weekend you will have learned polymer clay basics like purchasing information, tools and equipment, conditioning, at least 5 different canes/patterns, shaping, substrates, adhesives, color blending, and more.
No previous experience necessary!
